An Evening with John Chisum & Friends

John Chisum came to Nashville in 1983 to take a job that ultimately fell through. With only $40 to his name, John got a paper route in the Bellemeade area of Nashville. As he trudged through the early mornings tossing newspapers on the porches of the beautiful homes, he began to compose melodies and lyrics. He began to dream of having his songs recorded. But not knowing anyone in the music business made the likelihood of having a song recorded very low, much less of breaking into the music business as a profession.

But a break came when Cindy Holloway, assistant to the late producer Lari Goss, begged Lari to meet John and listen to his fledgling songs. Goss composed a melody for one of John’s lyrics and placed it on a Southern Gospel recording. Meeting Bill Gaither and the late Gary McSpadden then opened up for John what was to become a 35+ year songwriting, publishing, recording, and touring career with over 400 of his songs recorded to date and a million-plus miles behind him traveling the US, Canada, and other parts of the world.

His two Integrity Hosanna! Music recordings “Firm Foundation” (1994) and “Come Expecting Jesus” (2001) established him as a popular worship leader worldwide. Songs from these recordings have been woven into the fabric of worship globally, appearing in hymnals, and sung by thousands of churches and by innumerable worshipers.

John continues writing and releasing his music, as well as empowering aspiring songwriters through Nashville Christian Songwriters ( “I stand on the shoulders of some amazing pioneers in the music world,” Chisum says. “If it weren’t for people like Bill & Gloria Gaither, Gary McSpadden, Lari Goss, and Cindy Holloway, I wouldn’t be able to be here passing on the knowledge and success I’ve enjoyed to hopeful songwriters.”

John has recently launched with a new podcast “All the Best with John Chisum.” The show is designed to help listeners live a more creative and fulfilling life by exploring faith, spirituality, self-help, motivation, and wellness. You can listen on all streaming outlets such as Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Youtube and more.
