Birthday Candles is a play about one woman’s life, Ernestine, as she ages from 17 to 107, exploring love, loss, family, and the passage of time. The entire play unfolds in the setting of a single kitchen where she bakes a birthday cake, using this repetitive ritual as a framework to experience the extraordinary moments within an ordinary life.
The play compresses a lifetime of events into a single, continuous performance, offering a unique perspective on aging and the meaning of a life well-lived.
