Part of Shocktober
A century ago, in the fog-drenched waters just off Spivey Point, the town of Antonio Bay was established with the recovered spoils of the Elizabeth Dane, a vessel filled with wealthy, refuge-seeking lepers. Now, as the town prepares for its centennial, an unearthly fog, unexplainable by clergyman and scientist alike, has rolled in from the sea—and with it, something unspeakable. Writer/director John Carpenter followed up his international breakthrough HALLOWEEN with this moody, atmospheric tale of vengeance from beyond the grave. With Tom Atkins, Jamie Lee Curtis, Adrienne Barbeau, Hal Holbrook and Janet Leigh.
“THE FOG is more spooky yarn than streamlined scream machine; it’s the sort of crowd pleaser best enjoyed with an audience.” —J. Hoberman, New York Times
“Ghoulish, tense and utterly fantastical, John Carpenter's tale of shipwrecked spectres squelching their way through a fluorescent fog to wreak vengeance on a seaside town is a classic campfire yarn.” —Will Lawrence, Empire Magazine
“No shotguns pumping; no prowling of dark corners; no tricksy dry-ice chills. Instead you'll find a masterful simplicity of style, a lonely and determined group of characters under siege, and a childlike sense of brooding fear that almost disappeared in the '70s.” —Time Out London
