THE WITCHES OF EASTWICK

Part of Shocktober

Three modern-day witches (Cher, Susan Sarandon and Michelle Pfeiffer) yearn for Mr. Right in a quaint New England town. Is the arrival of wealthy, irresistible Daryl van Horne (Jack Nicholson) a coincidence –– or their unconscious sorcery at work? From John Updike’s bestseller, THE WITCHES OF EASTWICK is a star-bright otherworldly delight from the creator of MAD MAX.

“This movie plays like a plausible story about implausible people. The performances sell it. And the eyebrows.” —Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times (Jun 12, 1987)

“An uproarious and entirely successful attempt to examine the differences between the sexes by couching the examination in mythological terms.” —Jay Scott, Toronto Globe and Mail (Jun 12, 1987)

“Hell's belles! Nicholson's back. And that old Jack magic has us in his spell. Be it HEARTBURN or hellfire, the man remains hot stuff. America's unlikeliest sex symbol is cast at last in the ultimate Nicholson part —Satan himself, played for laughs with lunatic energy and a giddy finesse…. Nicholson — Devil times 10 — hasn't frothed at the mouth like this since he cut loose in THE SHINING.” —Rita Kempley, Washington Post (Jun 12, 1987)
